The Opportunity

A fantastic opportunity is available for a motivated entry-level deckhand looking to establish a long-term career in the superyacht industry.

This is a structured 2-year traineeship designed for someone who is serious about developing their skills and progressing within the industry.

You will work closely with an experienced Chief Officer and receive hands-on training across a broad range of deck operations, including bridge duties, tender operations, seamanship, maintenance and ISM procedures.

The aim is to provide the successful candidate with a strong foundation and the qualifications needed to progress well beyond an entry-level deckhand position.

Training & Qualifications

Training will commence after approximately 6 months onboard and will be progressively completed during the remaining 18 months of the traineeship.

The training package is expected to include:

MED 2

Master <24m NC

Course timing may be adjusted where necessary around the vessel’s guest schedule.

Subject to successfully completing the two-year traineeship, the deckhand will leave with valuable qualifications, substantial practical experience and a strong reference from a high-profile 38m superyacht — providing an excellent platform for progression into more senior deck positions both in Australia and internationally.

Who We’re Looking For

This position would suit a green or entry-level deckhand who:

Is genuinely committed to a career in the superyacht industry

Has a strong work ethic and positive attitude

Is keen to learn and undertake further training

Takes direction well and works effectively as part of a small crew

Has a practical, switched-on approach

Is Sydney based and has their own accommodation ashore

Must have their STCW as a minimum

Happy to undergo an extensive background / security check

Previous deck experience is welcome, but the right attitude, commitment and willingness to learn are more important than extensive experience.

All candidates must hold:

STCW Basic Safety Training

Appropriate medical certification, such as ENG1 or AMSA medical, where required

Any additional security clearance or vessel-specific requirements applicable to the position

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is serious about building a career in the superyacht industry, rather than simply looking for their next deckhand job.
