Private | Mediterranean | 15m+ Chase vessel to a 70m+ Superyacht  

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Mate / Relief Captain to join a professionally operated sportfishing chase boat supporting a 70m+ superyacht.

Working as part of a close-knit three-person crew, this is a hands-on position for someone who is equally comfortable carrying out day-to-day Mate responsibilities and taking command of the vessel during relief periods.

The successful applicant will have a genuine passion for big-game fishing, with strong practical knowledge of offshore sportfishing and heavy-tackle techniques. Experience targeting species such as marlin and tuna is essential, along with the ability to rig, manage and safely assist with serious trophy fish while working alongside guests.

The role also requires a high level of attention to detail, with responsibility for maintaining the chase boat, deck areas and equipment to a standard consistent with a luxury superyacht operation.

CERTIFICATION: STCW + valid Seafarer Medical; Captain’s Licence advantageous

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Proven experience working aboard superyachts or similar high-end vessels.
  • Previous experience Captaining large support tenders/chase boats of 12m+ in length.
  • Extensive big-game sportfishing experience with a strong understanding of offshore fishing operations.
  • Confident handling heavy tackle and experienced with marlin, tuna and other large gamefish.
  • Able to actively participate in rigging and safely assist guests throughout the entire fishing process, including when large trophy fish are brought alongside.
  • Comfortable undertaking all aspects of Mate duties and general deck operations.
  • Strong skills in deck maintenance, cleaning, detailing and presentation.
  • Capable of maintaining high standards aboard a luxury chase boat.
  • Flexible and willing to adapt to changing operational requirements.
  • Professional, approachable and able to build positive relationships with the owner, guests and wider crew.
  • A reliable team player who is also confident working independently.
  • Comfortable undertaking solo night watches when required.
  • A genuine enthusiasm for fishing and the ability to engage with and share that passion with guests.

This would suit an experienced deck professional with substantial sportfishing credentials who is looking to combine hands-on fishing, deck operations and relief command within a high-end private yacht program.
